NEW ** Official Wildcats Batboy

Brendan Close (pictured right) is the new official bat boy for the Long Island Wildcats. Brendan is the younger brother of Wildcats 2nd baseman Raymond (Ray-Ray) Close. Brendan is 5 years old and in Kindegarten. He is so happy to be part of such a great team. Last Saturday's games were his first and did an awesome job.
Thanks Coach Anthony !!!

FALL BALL

The Fall season has started !!! The Wildcats played two games last Saturday. The first game was a loss. They played OK, but not Wildcats caliber. However, the second game WAS definitely Wildcats caliber. They all were on the ball, literally !! Great hitting by Ray-Ray Close. We knew you had it in you !! Great game by Joey Nicoletti and Jonathan Gateson also.
Thanks to Matt (Cali's friend) who helped us out. Unfortunately we have lost two of our Wildcats to age restrictions. They will be missed, John and Chris Heyer. Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat though !! Come back and cheer them on or just to visit !!

Next game is this Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Baldwin Park (blue field). This game is a double-header, so come prepared !!

Lets go Wildcats, keep up the good work. As Coach Ant says "Can't stop this train" - ain't that the truth !

Check us out on Facebook and LIKE the Long Island Wildcats page.

COOPERSTOWN !!

Well, we did it. It is hard to believe that it is over already !! Overall, the Wildcats played awesome ball. Being up against teams that sometimes play everyday of the year (300) games a year !! Wo. Practice everyday for at least two hours and live in places that have NO winter !!! They did GREAT !! You win some and you lose some, that is a fact of life. They held their own and were never completely out of it.
The experience was a once in a lifetime, and no one will ever take that away from them. The Families of all the players had a great time and everyone got along. While we were up there we realized just how lucky we are to have what we have. Other teams don't support as one unit, dispicable !! The siblings were so good, sometimes so bored and tired, but they hung in there and had a fun time too. We know how hard it is for them.
Pictures and further information to follow. Then we are on to Fall Ball !! Gotta love baseball !!

Friday, August 27, 2010

WE ARE OFF TO COOPERSTOWN TODAY!!!!!!! MOST OF THE TEAM IS GOING UP TODAY AND A COUPLE OTHER FAMILYS WILL BE COMING UP SATURDAY. WE ARE ALL SO EXCITED. AND ALL OF US PARENTS ARE SO VERY PROUD OF OUR BOYS.

HBQVB Tournament over

Well, we are out of the tournament. Just couldn't get a grip on the last game. They tried, but not hard enough. Sometimes it is 100% mental, and it just wasn't there. Well, there is always fall ball !!!
Either way, we are going to Cooperstown and the Long Island Wildcats better get their mental game together, or else ! Cooperstown is no HBQVB. We all know they are capable of it, the question is do THEY know !!! I sure hope they do.

See ya'll in Cooperstown !! Woo - Hoo !!!

GO LONG ISLAND WILDCATS !!!

On another note ... the Wildcats "social" at the Pompei was cancelled, it will be rescheduled for the fall. Hope everyone can make that one !!! Should be a fun night out. Details to follow.

HBQVB Tournament Continues

Well, we are still in it !! The Wildcats will now play Wenesday night at 5:45pm at the HBQVB complex on Hillside Ave. in Bellrose. Hopefully they play as well as they did their last game. Summer is going too fast and before you know it, we will be driving up to Cooperstown !

This blog is for the kids and people who are interested in whats going on with the team and the kids. No one asked me to do it, some people are under the impression that I have nothing better to do - not so. However, I KNOW of some people (adults and kids alike) who enjoy reading about their team on the internet and I FIND time. And until I am told NO ONE enjoys it, I will continue to FIND time to blog.

So I do hope you enjoy this but if you don't - oh well, DON'T read it !!!! :)

LoMangino Tournament

Well, we have been away from here for a while, but the boys have been busy !!! They are competing in a baseball tournament as we speak. They played the BEST game of their careers the other day (Saturday). Nick Cali hit his first homerun all the way over into the next field !! WAY TO GO NICK ! Chris Heyer also had an over the fence homerun. Matt Kurta played an AWESOME first base. Good pitching by John Heyer and Joey Nicoletti. The entire team had their stuff together. It was the best game they have played together in a while, if not ever.
We had our second car wash, and it went well. The first one was AWESOME, this one was good. They had fun and worked really hard. We will have our last one August 22 at PJ's Auto Center in Franklin Square again, please spread he word. Cooperstown is visible now, its coming fast. We leave for upstate on the 27 of August.
Once again, I cannot thank the coaches and manager enough !! We have one of the best if not the best coaching team in travel ball. As a parent I see how others teams interact and how other coaches speak and teach their kids. I am so glad we do not have what the other teams have. For example, our kids are respectful of EACH OTHER - they are not degrading and nasty to each other, as I have seen other teams be. The coaches are not degrading to the team as a whole, as I have seen other coaches screaming and yelling at the kids. Remember this is baseball, it is a GAME - a TEAM sport. Somehow, some people forget that. The people who do forget, must not have been very good when they were in High School and try to relive their baseball dreams. I am very happy and proud to say that I am a Wildcats parent and I am very proud that my son is part of such a great team. He and all the other boys are so lucky to have what they have. They may not realize it right now, but they will , I promise.
So for now we are in the top three in the tournament. Let's see if we can move on up !!

COOPERSTOWN or BUST ......

Please help the Long Island Wildcats meet their dreams and play at Cooperstown Dreams Park. We will be at PJ's Auto Center on New Hyde Park Road, Franklin Square. Come bright and early to get a great car wash and help send the boys to Cooperstown !! We will be starting at 9AM this Sunday, July 18th, 2010. Tell your friends and family to come on down .... the price is right !! The money will help fund the trip.
We need all the help we can get. Tell one, tell all !!

SECOND PLACE

Well, the end of the spring season is here. The Long Island Wildcats came in second place after a loss of 5-4 to the Bulldogs. An excellent game was played yesterday at Rath Park. Chris Heyer started us off the right way hitting a homerun which was followed a little later by Zachary O'Connor hitting another over the fence !! Great pitching by Joey Nicoletti and John Heyer. All the boys played very well, unfortunately it didn't go our way. Matt Kurta, Ray Close, Joey Duszak and Dylan Clare all did well in the infield while Anthony Millan had a great catch in right field. Jonathan Gateson and Chris Heyer rounded out the terrific outfield. Dennis Kadrich was preparing for pitching, but not feeling so well - great team spirit Dennis - thanks !!
I cannot say it enough, the coaches we have for our sons, the Wildcats, is bar none. We as parents really couldn't ask for more. They teach the kids baseball, of course, but they learn so much more. I know the memories that are made here with this team WILL last a lifetime and not everybody gets the opportunity to be part of such a great team, parents and kids alike. So thanks for a great Spring 2010 season and we will see you again for Summer tournaments and Fall Ball - already looking forward to that !!

Well, they did it !! Congratulations to the WIldcats for making the Championship - we are all very proud of you. The game is at 4:30 this afternoon at Rath Park. I know they have it in them and can win this thing. Let's go boys - bring your A game, do your best and most importantly have fun. We will all be their cheering you on and hoping for the best - but no matter what the outcome, it has been a GREAT spring season, we are proud of each and everyone of you. WOO-HOO WILDCATS !!!!

WAY TO GO WILDCATS !!! WIN 6-0

Single game WIN ... This past Sunday the Wildcats had a terrific game against the Bay Park Knights. Everyone did very well, they definitely brought their A game yesterday. As a parent I was proud of each and everyone of them. That is how a travel baseball game should be played !!
Great pitching by John Heyer and Joey Nicoletti. A terrific home-run by Zachary O'Connor. Dennis Kadrich hit a three run double. Nick Cali had an awesome hit as well ! All the boys were connecting yesterday though. The parents had fun too sitting in the outfield, we had a new perspective of things out there !
Once again, the coaching is awesome and we couldn't ask for better - Thanks Anthony, Paul, Charlie, Steve and of course Lisa !! You guys do an awesome job. The final score was 6-0. That is the Wildcats way and I hope they keep it going. Good job boys.
WE ARE CURRENTLY IN THIRD PLACE !! LET'S GO WILDCATS ......

GAME THIS SUNDAY 2PM

There is a SINGLE game this Sunday against the Bay Park Knights, at John Street Field (not our John St.) in East Rockaway. There are directions on the website - www.ncyaa.com - check it out. According to the website, we are in THIRD place !! Very exciting. The Wildcats should be very proud of themselves, it is quite an accomplishment to be in the top three ... hopefully we land higher !!

There was practice last night and the Wildcats looked fierce !! If only that could bring the "fun" practice energy to the games, we would be in first place. Bring it boys !

Hopefully the Wildcats will finish as strong as they started and win or lose, if they played their best, that's all we can ask of them.

Thanks again to the PHENOMENAL coaching team we have for the Wildcats, they truly are the BEST ! They really give their all for the kids.

Last, but certainly not least - Cooperstown, here we come !!! Only 13 weeks to go ... cannot wait ! It should be an interesting trip, but fun !!!!

Sunday' s Game - 5-23, 2010

Well, today we did not do too well. We lost both games. It seemed the Wildcats did not have their head in the games. The team we lost to wasn't a super great team, we should have done better.
It wasn't all bad. There was good pitching by Bloore, Gateson, J.Heyer & Kadrich. There were some good hits as well.
Better luck next time boys !!!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY !!

Well, we had a GREAT day together as a Wildcats family, even though we were missing some of our Moms. I hope all the mothers got to spend the day just as they wanted.
As far as the games, the boys, you played terrific. Some of the opponents were a little "older" than you guys, but you held your own. Two fantastic, nail biting games right down to the end !! I know I had a great Mother's Day watching the Wildcats play ball today. It was a bit windy, but we managed. Unfortunately we lost both games by only one run each game, but they were very EXCITING games. Either way we are all proud of the Wildcats and we will get them next time !!!
As a parent of one of the Wildcats, I have to say we have a GREAT coaching team, Anthony, Lisa, Charlie, Paul, Steve - THANK YOU !! You all teach them more than baseball, somethings more important, they will have for life.
Thanks to MaryAnn and Anthony Millan for a plentiful meal in between games and everyone else who contributed - munchkins, plates, table, coffee etc. etc. THANK YOU !!

The LI Wildcats consists of boys who love to play baseball. They have a great coaching staff. The team Manager/Coach is Anthony Millan, Assistant Coaches are Charlie Nicoletti, Lisa Bloore, Paul Heyer and Steve Gateson. The team roster : Anthony Millan, Joe Duszak, John Heyer, Chris Heyer, Raymond Close, Anthony Bloore, Jonathan Gateson, Matt Kurta, Joe Nicoletti, Nick Cali, Dylan Clare, Dennis Kadrich and Zack O'Connor.
This past Sunday was the first game of the season for the talented Wildcats team !! It was a double-header played in East Rockaway against the Lynbrook Cyclones. The crowd was excited and happy that baseball is back !!
